Navel Gazing

These days Words float in my head

and don’t come out right

I can’t tell if the pills made me sane or if

they made me safe.

The taste of numbness makes life float by

like a blue balloon moving from a loosened palm as I drift closer to the sky

I guess I’m just navel gazing from above,

coming back down as the helium slowly disappears until I am just a collection

of deflated rubber, in the shade of periwinkle.
